3 Ways We Are Blessed When in Unwanted Places

Sometimes unexpected events push us into unwanted places.

A mentor of mine just lost his job. My friend struggles through blood transfusions to gain strength for chemo. My son was born with unforeseen medical issues.

How can we receive blessings in our unwanted places?

Sometimes the unwanted places in life

become strategic placements for the Kingdom.

Like the church planter in Syria who stays among uncertain extremists because God is moving in the hearts of Muslims to follow Jesus.

Or the unknown number of refugees, pushed out of their homes, strategically placed in communities with Christian believers who love them well and share the Gospel.

Like Esther from the Bible, a beautiful Jewish girl living among non-Jews, pushed to become queen of Persia. Her placement in that worldly kingdom saved the Jews from complete massacre, protecting the Davidic line for the birth of Jesus, the King of all Kings.

For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”

-Esther 4:14

We Are All Pushed At Times

We are all pushed at times. Pushed by strained relationships, natural disaters, sicknesses, job losses, political changes, or even violence.

How we are blessed depends on how we respond.

How Are We Blessed?

  1. When We Trust God

My mentor who lost his job is looking to God in confidence of His faithfulness. “What’s next,  Lord?” He listens. He waits. He knows God will place him.

He is blessed with confidence in the Lord as he practices his trust in God.

I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.

Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.

-Psalm 27:13-14

2. When We Share

My friend suffering through blood cancer perseveres in trusting God and shares her hope with others.

She is blessed with increased faith as she shares her hope in God.

I will tell of your goodness; all day long I will speak of your salvation, though it is more than I can understand.

I will go in the strength of the Lord God; I will proclaim your goodness, yours alone.

– Psalm 71:15-16

3. When We Comfort Others with the Comfort We Receive

I met Elizabeth, a mom in the NICU caring for her newborn with liver cancer while I prayed for my own son to survive. Hubs felt prompted to gift her a Bible, highlighted and tabbed with verses of encouragement that we ourselves clung to.

Elizabeth called me after we left the NICU to tell me her daughter passed and that the Bible was of great encouragement to her.

My son’s sickness pushed us into the NICU, which became a placement by God to bring comfort to another mom.

We were blessed with joy when we comforted her with the same comfort we received.

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4

Sometimes the unwanted places in life

become strategic placements for the Kingdom.

 We are:

Blessed with confidence in the Lord as we trust Him.

Blessed with increased faith as we share our hope with others.

Blessed with joy as we comfort others with the comfort we receive.

Your Turn

Have you been pushed into an unwanted place? Are you experiencing grief? Fear? Anxiety?

Watch and see around you.  Maybe your push is actually a placement of Divine doing so you can shine light in the darkness of the lives around you. Or maybe God is preparing you for a new place of Kingdom impact you would miss unless you passed through this unwanted place.
