When the Provision of God Seems Empty

Matthew 6:33

We had $68 left in our bank account and two months to go before school loans kicked in for our last year of seminary. We diligently searched for summer jobs and prayed for God to give us a gig. We needed His provision.

Nothing.

What can we do when the provision of God seems empty?

  • Remember what is true of God.

    • The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it. Psalm 24:1
    • God is the provider. Matthew 6:33
  • Remember what is true of you.

When we seek first His kingdom and righteousness, we can trust Him to provide for our needs. Matthew 6:33

God’s Provision

We prayed…and prayed…and prayed.

Then God.

Someone asked us if we needed financial help and we shared honestly. God used that person to provide for our needs for the rest of the summer.

Go God.

Sometimes His provision comes in humbling ways. Like telling someone your broke or like the season during my husband’s grad school when we used government support for our groceries—I never imagined God’s help to come in THAT way. (Are you ready to receive His help in what way it comes?)

Sometimes His provision comes through providing unexpected work—maybe even work we rather not do. Like when hubs took a security guard job to help pay rent in grad school.

Sometimes His provision comes in grand ways—like selling my childhood home and being able to buy a home.

So when you have needs that seem impossible, remember:

What is true of God: He is our provider.

What is true of Me: If I seek Him and His righteousness, I can trust for Him to provide for my needs.

Scripture to Remember:

Matthew 6:33 But seek first His kingdom and righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
