How Can I Pray For You? An Invitation.

Spiritual community is powerful.

Opening myself up to the virtual world of cyber prayer requests this pregnancy left me vulnerable for judgment and criticism.

But I know the power of prayer. And most of my believing and praying friends read social media. So, I sucked up my pride of “what will people think?” I posted—and posted.

Updates. Praises. Requests.

Two Lessons About Prayer:

1) God answers specific prayers in unexpected ways.

  • PRAYER: Full-term baby. ANSWER: Baby sustained in my womb day by day.
  • PRAYER: For my fears to go away. ANSWER: God reminding me of His faithfulness.
  • PRAYER: Help with kids and chores. ANSWER: New friends offering their homes and lives.
  • PRAYER: In-home help. ANSWER: Unexpected resources to fly out mother-in-law.
  • PRAYER: Strength to persevere. ANSWER: Supernatural energy with all tasks finished.
  • PRAYER: To not feel so alone. ANSWER: Words of life from friends and strangers.
  • PRAYER: Needed items for baby. ANSWER: Unexpected gifts from far and wide.
  • And much more.

2) Spiritual community extends geographic boundaries.

Through cards, messages, emails—even strangers stopping me in the halls at church—I am witnessing the unity of believers through the spiritual act of prayer.

I imagine each prayer a link in a chain, offering strength, faith, and God’s power to work in our lives.

This chain of hope and power incircles me and my family around—and around—and around.

Each link in the chain standing in the gap for us in a different location. Israel. California. Texas. Pennsylvania. Colorado. Michigan. Poland. Nebraska. And many more places. All standing in unity as one through prayer.

Spiritual community is powerful.

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

-Ephesians 6:18
